Mathematical optimization is a discipline situated at the interface of other disciplines, particularly applied mathematics, operations research and computer science. Mathematical optimization involves synthesizing models in a formal, declarative problem language known as mathematical programming. Also the design of algorithms for exact or approximate solutions to problems and their applications. The models vary according to the nature of the decision variables (discrete or continuous) and constraints (linear, convex or non-linear), thus determining the class of algorithms that can be applied.
Promote scientific and technological advancement by proposing new algorithms for optimizing static and dynamic systems.
Contribute to the country's technological innovation through the synthesis of systems models of real interest and the application of mathematical optimization methodologies.
Promote the training of highly qualified human resources at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
